I’m looking to get some earbud noise canceling headphones, can anyone recommend some i should look at (not looking to spend $300 though)

I am looking to get noise cancelling headphones.
The nice Bose ones are $300 and I can’t spend that much. I saw cheaper Sony ones online, are they any good?
Please recommend and tell me what you have and if you like it.

To wear on the train, I don’t need the $300 Bose ones, just one that will reduce the noise enough to listen to an audiobook. Im thinking under $50. Again dont need the fancy ones, I may fall asleep and miss my stop.

I’m looking into an iPod, and therefore I’m looking into some good head phones, namely ones that can cancel sound. I’m not really willing to drop the almost $300 for the more fancy ones, so which ones would you guys recommend?

To ease my daily commute, can anybody recommend any headphones, noise-cancelling or otherwise, that are so good that they will block out the noise of people’s mobile phones going off and the conversation that follows? If they block out train noise as well, that’s even better, but my primary concern is the mobile phone and mobile phone user noise.
