I’m going on a flight in a few weeks, and want some good [though low budget!] headphones. I’m wondering what’s the difference between noise cancelling and noise isolation headphones? Would noise isolation headphones be just as good at disguising aircraft engine noise?

I am looking for some noise cancelling or noise reducing headphones. To tell ya the truth I don’t know the difference. I play acoustic drums which are very loud. All I want is some headphones that I can use my iPod with when I am playing the drums. I like to listen to songs and play along with them but my problem is that I use earbuds and I have to balst the music so I can hear over the drums. That makes my ears ring and does me no good. I want something that can make the drums softer but not COMPLETELY gone and nice audio so I can use it on a day to day basis. Also IF you want to explain to me what to look for and wht is “better” whne looking for a pair of headphones I would appreciate it. oh..and Im not intrested in the bosse 3’s. I dont want in ear buds or ON ear headphones. Id prefer over ear. The buds hurt…I’ve tried a few. Links to good headphones at reasonable prices(round$100) is cool. I work in radio and have to wear headphones for 5 hours. I only have one good ear so I would like to protect it. Does anyone know of headphones that have both of those features? Or even earbuds- i hate headphone hair ; ) Thanks a lot for your help!

I want a pair of noise-canceling headphones which can drown out some of the sounds while riding on a lawnmower. Listening to a radio is tough on a loud mower, and I would also like to drown out some of the noise. Can anyone give me recommendations?

I know noise canceling headphones do block out a bit of it but is that because of the noise canceling system or ear just being covered blocks it out. And I’m planning on buying Panasonic RP-HC500.
